Fall 2010 Registered Mindfulness Meditation Series


Join Doug MacLean on Sundays at 4:00-5:15 PM for this registered Mindfulness Meditation session.

This registered class is for individuals who are interested in the practice of mindfulness and meditation. The class would be suitable for anyone and no prior meditation experience is necessary.

Mindfulness is a capacity of “living in the moment” that anyone can cultivate. It is developed by paying attention, on purpose, from moment to moment through meditation. You can discover calmness of mind, increased personal energy, a sense of well-being, and deeper insight into your life. A calm and peaceful way to end your weekend and set the tone for the new week.

In this class, you will learn sitting, walking and lying down meditations. The meditations are guided by the instructor and they are of varying lengths to help bring variety to the practice. During the sitting practice, participants may either sit on the floor or in a chair depending upon their preference and comfort level. You will be provided with suggestions on how to apply mindfulness in your daily life.

ABOUT MINDFULNESS

Mindfulness is a human capacity for paying attention on purpose, in the present, to the experience of being alive. It is a particular way of knowing that we often ignore, and can be cultivated by listening carefully and compassionately to one's moment-to-moment experience.

Mindfulness has been part of the Buddhist traditions for thousands of years. However, the essence of mindfulness is universal. It is about refining a capacity for attention and awareness. It is not something that you have to "get" -- it is already within you. It is a deep and powerful resource for learning and growing.

ABOUT DOUG MACLEAN, EdD

Doug MacLean has been practicing meditation for 15 years and teaching mindfulness meditation for over three years at Mount Royal University and U of C Continuing Education as well as at various yoga studios around Calgary. His approach models the work of Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, a pioneer in bringing the practice of mindfulness to the west.
