A weekend Workshop with Michael Stone, May 16, 17 & 18.
FRIDAY, MAY 16 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM Evening Lecture: The Stages of Yoga
Michael will explore the basic teachings of yoga philosophy and how practice comes to life in the mind, body and culture in each and every moment. This talk is for those with an established practice OR FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN YOGA PHILOSOPHY WHO MAY NOT HAVE A PRACTICE.
Michael elucidates the yoga path allowing us to see through the obscurations of the mind to our inherent freedom. The stages of yoga are like concentric circles as we weave through the stages daily and over time as we unfold and grow in the practice. Michael lays out the map so we can track where we are in the process, beginning with the preliminary realizations that bring us to the beginning of a serious practice moving through the various limbs and obstacles as practice matures.
SATURDAY, MAY 17 12:30 - 5:30 PM INTELLIGENT PRACTICE
and
SUNDAY, MAY 18 12:00 - 5:00 PM INTELLIGENT PRACTICE
The flowing postures of vinyasa are known for both their meditative qualities and how postures link together into a continuous flow. Although not often taught with subtlety, vinyasa is based on a profound internal principle of alignment and energy conjunction, which teaches us how to work with our minds. This core alignment removes obstacles to internal breath and feeling so that meditation and insight easily arise.
This weekend workshop will be a step-by-step exploration of the basic thread of form, nreathing and movement upon which the classical series of postures in the Ashtanga vinyasa system is strung. We will eexplore effective and natural patterns of alignment that open core breathing. The we will explore the role of the mind in practice and relationship between physical and psychological holding patterns so that working with the body and working with the mind become inseparable.
Students will learn small, subtle adjustments in form and attidue that can make problematic and difficult poses produce their fruits.
We will also study parts of the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali in detail and explore the relationship between practice "on" and "off" the mat.
